Mighty Samは、1943年4月15日、Louisiana州 Monroe生まれで、2015年6月15日に亡くなっている。
Good Rockin’ Samの名で活動を始め、
1957年頃、Robert Greenの紹介で出会ったLittle Melvinと共に、NashvilleのR&Bシンガー、Larry Birdsongのバックコーラスを務める。
しかし、NashvilleのGood Rockin’ Samは、Now Listen Baby（Ernies Record Mart(ace)で聴くことができる）を歌っていたSam Beasleyという人で別人。
Little Melvinの録音に参加し、Life Is Miserable/Wabble (Ama 502）を1960年にリリースする。
Frolidaで歌っていたところを見たPapa Don Schroederの仲介で、1966年から、Muscle Scolasに録音を開始する。
Bell傘下のAmiでは、8枚のシングルをリリースする。
Ami録音を纏めたReissue盤として、Nothing but the Truth(Charly CBR-1189）がある。
1986年には、Bobby BlandのMemberd Onlyでギターを弾いていたWayne Bennettと共に来日し、来日公演については、Live in Japan（Vivid DB-2508）としてリリースされている。
1990年代には、Hubert Sumlin’ Blues Partyに参加。
2012年のToo Much Jesus(Not Enough Whiskey)が遺作になった。
