<p>1960年代には、サム＆デイヴをはじめ有名デュオ、ユニットが存在した。James&amp;Bobbyのユニットもその中に含まれる。

James Lee Purifyは、1944年5月12日Florida州 Pensaoola生まれ。Robert Lee Dickeyは、1939年Florida州9月2日Tallahassee生まれで、2011年12月29日に亡くなっている。

1965年にJames & Bobby Purifyは結成される。Robert Lee Dickeyは、ユニット結成前は、Dothan Sextetでギタリストをしていた。

1966年、Bell recordsと契約。

アルバム「James &amp; Bobby Purify」（Bell 6003）は、1966年に大ヒットしたI’me your puppet、厚みのある掛け合い、ディープなVocalの重ね方をするYou left the water running、透き通るヴォーカルが力強く、且つまろやかさもあるBlame　meといった曲を含んでいる。

アルバムは、他に、Pure Sound of the Purify（同 6010）がある。

1970年代になって、Robert Lee Dickeyは、Ben Mooreと交代。You & Me Together Forever（Casablanca 7011）、Purify Bros（Mercury 1134）をリリースしている。</p>
