Maxine Brownは、1932年4月27日、サウスカロライナ州 King Stree生まれ。
1950年代は、Manhattans, Poyaltonesでゴスペルを歌い、その後、R&Bに転向し、
1960年、All in My Mind / Harry Let’s Marry（Nomar 103）でレコードデビュー。
1961年からは、ABC Paramountに録音。
1962年に、Wandに移籍。Wandレーベルから、ABCパラマウント期の作品を集めたデビューアルバム、the Fabulous Sound of Maxine Brown（Wand 656)が発売される。
1968年に、Epicに移籍。
1970年代には、Commonwealth Unitedからレコードをリリースする。
