Johnny Bristolは、1939年2月3日Morgantown生まれで、2004年3月20日に亡くなっている。
1960年、Let’s Go to Movie Baby/Lonely and Blue（Anna 1108）でデビュー。
Tri-Phi、MGMに録音を続け、Tri-Phiからは、1961年に、Checker、Sound Stage 7に作品を残しているJacky BeaversとJohnny & Jackeyというユニットを組んで、Someday We’ll Be Together/She Don’t Play（Tri-Phi 1005）をリリースし、後にthe Supremesにカヴァーされている。
同ユニットは、1963年まで録音を続ける。
Motownのスタッフとして、主にHarvey Fuqua、Clarence Mcmurrayと共に、the SupremesのSomeday Will be together、Jr.WalkerのWhat Does it take、Edwin Starrの25 Miles、 Stevie WonderのYester Me Yeater You Yesterday、Gladys KnightのGotta be that wayを手掛けてもいる。
Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrellのアルバム「United」もプロデュースしている。
1974年に1stアルバム「Hang on in There Baby」（MGM 4959）をリリース。
1977年にAtlanticに移籍。アルバム「Bristol’s Creme」（Atlantic SD-18197）をリリース。
