Luther Vandrossは、1951年4月20日生まれで、2005年7月1日に亡くなっている。姉のPatricia Vandrossは、Doo-WopグループのCrestsのメンバーである。
1964年に、Shade of Jadeを結成。
1969年、アポロシアターワークショップのメンバーとして、Only Love Can Make a better World/Listen My Brotherを録音。
1972年、Roberta Flack & Donny Hathawayのレコーディングに参加。
1973年、Delores HallのLP（RCA 0204）で、2曲作曲し、Who’s Gonna Make It Easier for Meでは歌も歌っている。
1976年にデビューアルバム「Luther」（Cotillion 9907）をリリース。
1977年には、This Is For Real, Don’t Take The Timeを含むLP「This Close to You」（Cotillion 9916）をリリースする。
1980年に、The ChangeのLP「The Grow of Love」では、Featuring Singerとして2曲に参加。
1980年代には、Forever, for Always, for Love（Epic FE 38235）、Never Too Much (37451）、The Night I Feel in Love（39882）といったLPがある。
1991年に、LP「Power of Love 」をリリース。
